Privacy
You can practice without an account, an email address or a name. Your progress stays in your browser.
What we count
To see which pages and tests help people, the site sends us short events such as “a California permit test started” or “a practice test finished with a score between 80 and 89”. Each event is tied to a random id stored in your browser, not to you. We do not store your IP address, your browser details, the full address of the page, your answers or any nickname. We use no third-party analytics and no advertising trackers.
If your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, we send and store no events at all. Events are deleted after 13 months.
Your practice progress
Which questions you answered, whether you got them right and when are saved in your browser’s storage on this device, so the mistake list and ExamReady can use them. They are never sent to us. Clearing your browser data deletes them. ExamReady’s Download backup button saves them to a file on your device (question ids, right or wrong, and times; no name or email), and Restore from a backup reads that file back. The file goes only where you put it.
Our counts include only that a study session started or finished, what kind it was and how long since the last one (in broad buckets), that a backup was made or restored, and that the mistake list was opened with a broad count of open mistakes (none, 1–9, 10 or more). Never the answers themselves. A click on “I’d want this” for the Pass Pack is counted the same way, with no email or contact detail.
Pass Pack
Stripe processes your payment; we never see your card. We keep what you bought, for which state, the amount, when your access ends and a Stripe payment reference. We do not keep your email address. Your access code is shown after payment (and on Stripe’s invoice email, when that is on); we keep only a scrambled (hashed) form of it. A cookie named hq_pass keeps this device unlocked until your access ends.
Who handles requests
Pages are served by Vercel and audio by Cloudflare, both in the United States. Like any web host, they see your IP address to deliver the page and keep it in short-lived security logs. Our own database is on our server in the United States and never stores your IP address: to stop abuse we count requests per address using a scrambled (keyed hash) form of it that is deleted within a day.
Children and teens
Most people preparing for a learner’s permit are teenagers. The site is not directed to children under 13 and asks nobody for a name, email address, phone number or photo. Practice needs no account. Anyone under 18 needs a parent or guardian to buy a Pass Pack. We do not sell or share personal information, and we show no ads.
Your choices
Clearing your browser data deletes your progress and the random id. To have a purchase record deleted or exported, email privacy@highwayquiz.com with your Stripe receipt; we answer within 30 days. Records we must keep for tax and accounting are kept only as long as the law requires.
